The 2017 Clinker Memorial Lecture will be given at the Mechanics Conference Centre, 103 Princess Street, Manchester, M1 6DD on Saturday 14th October 2017 commencing at 2.00pm.
The lecture, given by Richard Byrom, is titled “William Fairbairn: the experimental engineer – a study in mid-nineteenth century engineering”.

The Mechanics Conference Centre is in the (Grade II*) listed building that it was built for and housed the former Mechanics Institute of which William Fairbairn was a founder. It is also where the TUC, CIS and, what became, UMIST were formed. The interior includes original stained glass and other features (notably ceilings) as well as the boardroom in which the TUC first met.
